Hi Camille,

I'm in Samui/Phagnan for the first two weeks of September and I see that the weather forecast is totally overcast for the whole time. Will I see any sun do you think? I'm hoping that the forecast isn't totally accurate!

Thanks for doing such a useful blog btw.

Hi Bobby,

Thank for checking in. September is usually a nice month, I'm not sure what sight you're checking, but it's going to be fairly difficult to predict anything two weeks in advance.
From experience, the first two weeks in September should be really nice with plenty of sunshine.
My suggestions is to have a look at my archives, halfway down the page on my Samui info and weather blog, right hand side, they go back a few years. Open a month that you’re interested in and check one of the last posts of each month, starting with ‘Goodbye to…………’ this post will tell you the weather conditions for that month.
You can also check each individual post for that month if you wish to.

Hi Camille

Like Bobby above, my wife and I will be staying on the island for the first two weeks of September and are concerned about the weather forecasting we have seen at AccuWeather

Needless to say, we are hoping they are wrong and are aware that this must be 'guesstimating' as long-range forecasting is reliably inaccurate at the best of times. However, from your archives, it does seem that the first two weeks of September last year were wet and windy and September 2013 wasn't a fantastic month, so we're preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.

If the forecasting turns out to be accurate and we do have the near daily showers and storms predicted, is it likely to prevent us from getting round the island in a hire car? I've heard that the roads on Samui can flood fairly easily, but I'm not sure whether that is confined to the monsoon season - Oct/Nov - or whether September rain can be as bad when it does make an appearance. We're staying at Centara Villas in Maret, which I understand is a little isolated, so I'm concerned that drainage may not be as efficient as in the more populated areas.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also, do you have any recommendations for reliable car hire companies close to Maret.

Lastly, thank you for providing such an informative blog. As a first time visitor to Samui, it has provided a wealth of really helpful information.

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for your request, you raise some good points. As you already state, it's very difficult to predict weather patterns so far ahead of time. We can indeed only hope for the best. In general, September should be nice, it doesn't unfortunately mean it will or has to be nice.
Having that said, in the wort case scenario, the roads are easy to travel. There may be flash flooding, in case copious amount of rain come down, but in contrast to a few years ago, when the roads could stayed flooded for days on an end, nowadays most of the water is drained within half an hour. The city council (by lack of better word) did a good job putting a well functioning drainage system around the island.

Your resort is indeed a little bit isolated, although, once you have wheels, there are some good places to visit down there, it's one of our fave parts of the island to tour, it's quiet and more authentic compared to other parts of the island. Try out Sweet Sisters for a lunch (closed on Wednesdays).

Unfortunately I don't have a recommendation for a car rental location near your resort, but I'm sure the resort can help out.

Hope this helps for now!
